Bishop Barres To Be Installed as Fifth Bishop of Rockville Centre

BISHOP BARRES TO BE INSTALLED AS FIFTH BISHOP OF ROCKVILLE CENTRE
INSTALLATION MASS AT ST. AGNES CATHEDRAL.
2:00 P.M., TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, 2017

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK – January 26, 2017  — The Most Reverend John Oliver Barres, S.T.D., J.C.L., D.D., will be installed as the fifth Bishop of the Rockville Centre Catholic Diocese on January 31, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. (procession begins at 1:45 p.m.) in the Cathedral of Saint Agnes, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, New York, 11571.  Bishop Barres succeeds Bishop William Murphy who has retired.  Telecare – the television station of the Diocese of Rockville Centre will broadcast complete coverage of the installation.  For the Mass of Installation, coverage will begin at 1:15 pm.  Telecare can be seen on Optimum 29/137, Verizon FiOS 296, and Charter Spectrum 471.  Coverage will also be available at TelecareTV.org, and Telecare’s Facebook page and Twitter pages.

 

The principal installing prelates will be Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of the New York Province and Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America.

Large numbers of civil officials, Catholic bishops, priests and members of religious communities, together with leaders of other faith communities and hundreds of Long Islanders are expected to pack the Cathedral.

We welcome coverage of the installation from television stations, radio stations, electronic media and the press.

For live broadcast access details of the Installation Mass, interested media outlets should submit their request via email to Telecare Television at: info@telecaretv.org  There is limited space in the Cathedral for video cameras and still photographers.  

Due to security procedures, all media must be in place inside the Cathedral no later than 1:00 PM for the Installation Mass.  Media will not be permitted to enter the Cathedral after this time.  Due to security protocols in place media wishing to conduct person on the street interviews prior to the Mass are to conduct those interviews in the parking lot across from the Cathedral.

Parking for media will be available on College Place between N. Park Avenue and Clinton Avenue.

Press credentials, issued by this office, will be required for the admission of all reporters and photographers to the Cathedral for the Installation Mass. Due to security procedures, press credentials are non transferrable.
