How to Address a Bishop

In the United States, “The Most Reverend” is prefixed to the name of a Bishop or Archbishop.  In conversation it is proper to address a Bishop or Archbishop as “Your Excellency” or “Archbishop” or “Bishop”. At church ceremonies he is usually distinguished from other clergy by his purple zucchetto or skull cap and other purple vestments, and by the large ornamental cross he wears over his chest.  When he wears the standard clerical black street dress, he has a pectoral cross around his neck and wears a gold episcopal ring on the third finger of his right hand.
